Prince Liam. Prince Frederic. Prince Duncan. Prince Gustav. You've never heard of them, have you? These are the princes who saved Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Snow White, and Rapunzel, respectively, and yet, thanks to those lousy bards who wrote the tales, you likely know them only as Prince Charming. But all of this is about to change. Rejected by their princesses and cast out of their castles, Liam, Frederic, Duncan, and Gustav stumble upon an evil plot that could endanger each of their kingdoms. Now it's up to them to triumph over their various shortcomings, take on trolls, bandits, dragons, witches, and other assorted terrors, and become the heroes no one ever thought they could be.

Debut author Christopher Healy takes us on a journey with four imperfect princes and their four improbable princesses, all of whom are trying to become perfect heroes-a fast-paced, funny, and fresh introduction to a world where everything, even our classic fairy tales, is not at all what it seems.

    Princess Bride Meets Monty Python
Other reviewers have compared this book & narrator to the Princess Bride. I think it’s a brilliant and very apt comparison. But, I think one more needs to be added — the narrator has a definite Monty Python feel.

Between the laugh-a-minute story, the humorously flawed yet oh-so-lovable characters, and the narrator’s expert delivery of all the various characters (love the Arnold Schwarzenegger-esque delivery the most), I felt like crying when this book was done and I realized there was not yet a sequel available.

PLEASE CHRISTOPHER & BRONSON – Get to work! We need another and fast!

  2. Love Flowers

    I love this series!
I will always love this book – can’t wait to read it to my future kids.

  3. Barry Roselli

    Alternate fairy tale
Anything Bronson Pinchot narrates is worth listening to. He’s the best!
Can’t wait to hear the rest of the series.

  4. Deja

    Surprisingly light hearted and funny
I found this book quite comical . It had a great storyline. The narrator did a great job ! This is a book you could listen to in the car with people of all ages !!

  5. Mckinley Bowersock

    Fun for the family!
We loved listening to this book!! The narrator was incredibly talented. My younger two (7 & 5) weren’t as captured by it as my 10 year old, my husband and myself. Their loss, it was wonderful!

  6. Arturo Feher

    A Light-Hearted Adventure!
This was a fun listen. I was a little tired of some of the heavier books I was listening to and just wanted something that was fun and funny. This book fit that bill perfectly. I would love this to turn into a series. More PLEASE!

  7. Antonetta H.

Very good book. At first I wasn’t sure but after I really liked it.
This book was very entertaining and the characters are hilarious. I loved most of the book but some part were confusing, but over all it was very good.

  8. Monroe C.

This book is well written and delightfully read. It is a must for anyone who loves a good story and fairy tales.

  9. Valentin Berdecia

    Fun for all ages
This is a bit like Into the Woods, showing you what happens behind or after the “happily ever after” of fairy tales. Bronson Pinchot’s narration is what really makes it special and adds to the humor.

  10. Pamala M.

    Excellent narration!
My son and I enjoyed all of the characters as performed by Bronson Pinchot. He was amazing to listen to! We also enjoyed the story, especially as it was brought to life through this narrator. Highly recommend for fans of modern fairy tales with a twist.

  11. Leah Bronson

Worthy addition to the fractured fairy tale genre

  12. Mom of three

Awesome book. Just read it already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good book, but I don’t like the fact that the unique voices can be hard to understand and annoying. And overall this Book deserves the five star rating!

  13. Bernardine Nimmons

    Very entertaining!
Excellent story for the whole family! My 11 and 13 year old boys were riveted to the story the entire trip. Comedy, adventure and drama all in one extremely well performed narration. The voices and accents were so much fun that we’ve been imitating them ever since.

  14. Gus Vickerson

    Amazing narration
This series is fun, whisical and the voices the narrator brings to all the charcters are amazing in their variety.

  15. Wade Epler

    Totally worth it
Really, give this book a try. The performer is out of this world and puts so much effort into everything. Yeah, Duncan can be a bit much but really this looks at so many things in a new way I think anyone would enjoy it given half a chance. I’m giving the next one a try

  16. Terry Grundmann

if I were 8 I think I would have liked it.
struggled to finish. very juvenile, characters were not interesting. reader was great. did not care at all what happened to any of them

  17. Lezlie Chace

Thoroughly enjoyed by, son and I
5yr old son and I looked forward to getting in the car as we knew we’d be listening to this wonderful fairy tale mashed up. Bronson’s delivery accentuated the playfully clever story with wicked funniness.

  18. Veronika Hettwer

    Fabulous narration!
If you could sum up The Hero’s Guide to Saving Your Kingdom in three words, what would they be?

  19. JDL525

A Great Children’s Story About Unlikely Heroes
I enjoyed this story fat more than I should have as I’m well outside the target audience. It’s a wonderful children’s comedic fantasy. The characters are flawed but work together to overcome themselves and the antagonist. Good lessons, good humor, well written, and well performed.

  23. Jennifer Gaudio

A fun story for families and kids
It’s a funny story explore the lives of the princes charming and there princesses after there fairy tails. It’s an easy and lay backed book to listens to and the voice acting is outstanding with great character voices and an overall amazing performance. Would recommend to younger audiences but adults may still enjoy it.

  24. Austin Newstrom

    Funny, occasionally a frustrating experience
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

  25. Grant Matthews

    a great twist
the adventure is so full of comedy action and twists that you feel like your part of the company of princes.

  26. Hugo Stike

    Creative thinking
I was completely captivated by the first chapters of this book, the idea was so brilliant, rethinking the fairytales we all know so dearly and giving each of the charmings’ personal characteristics. And I loved the different voices for the characters (some a lot more then others) and I adored the charmings personalities. I even got to understand the villain’s actions. But the story begins so good, and the ending left me kind of flat. It confused me and left things unresolved, maybe because there are more then one book or maybe because I listen to it too fast or maybe because there was just to many people to keep track of in the end. I really did enjoy it, so it was worth the credit, I just wished it ended differently.

  27. Joanne P.

    amazingly funny
I love this series. so many funny lol moments. great way of looking at all the famous princes and princesses.

  30. Ashely Lafuze

    Great Fun!
My two girls (8 and 9) and I loved listening to this! The reader had so many wonderful voices for each of the characters. Very well done!

  31. Reed Deroy

service took this story to the next level
Super cute story that is beautifully read. I feel like if I would’ve just read the book it would’ve been a solid three but hearing it on service give it a solid four.

  32. Dana S.

I adore this book as much for the reader as for the story itself. He is absolutely amazing. Think Jim Dale quality, if you are a fan of the Harry Potter audios. The story is a fun take on the retelling of fairytales that is so common right now. Laugh out loud funny in places, again because of the reader every bit as much as the actual writing. I just about spewed my drink all over the first time I heard him reading the troll voice. Overall this book is worth reading in any form, but the audio book just makes it that much better. Prepare to have some light hearted fun with a story that engages adults as well as those in its intended audience.

  33. Mazie Brimeyer

    Fun and clever!
I adored the narrators character voices. I laughed out loud many times! Great play off the classic fairy tales. Clever and a joy to listen to! This will be my go-to road trip audio book!

  34. Mao Jefferys

    An absolute delight
This book is enchanting and the performance by Bronson Pinchot is absolutely delightful. Really, get this book just for the performance only and it’ll be well worth it.

The story takes the mostly neglected male lead characters from popular fairy tales who happened to be at the right time at the right place – so to speak – and concocts tale full of adventure, daring, some magic and even luck. The humor, which is abundant throughout the book, is enjoyable and appropriate for both adults and children. So if you’re looking for an entertaining book to keep the kids engaged, this is a great choice. On the other hand if you’re looking for a light hearted fun listening for yourself with a happy ending, this is a great pick there too.

  35. Monroe Pully

Got my Dyslexic son to fall in love with audio . .
If you could sum up The Hero’s Guide to Saving Your Kingdom in three words, what would they be?

    Bronson Pinchot is a genius!
I wish I could give Bronson Pinchot’s performance a higher rating than 5 Stars! He was absolutely BRILLIANT!!! His regular speaking voice is lovely to listen to, I could listen to him read the phone book and still be enchanted! But then when you add in all the wonderful voices he does for each character, that skyrockets him ahead of the rest! I laughed out loud so many times while listening to this story and many of those times were all due to his crazy voices or laughing or whatever he was doing at that moment. I’m 39 years old and worried at first that this book might be too ‘young’ for me, but I was pleasantly surprised! It was so much fun to listen to the zany adventures of the 4 princes and princesses, I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it. If you’re looking for something fun and lighthearted I definitely recommend this book. I’ve already bought book 2 and am part way through it. If you’re debating reading this book yourself or listening to the audio version, let me suggest that you go with the audio! Bronson doesn’t disappoint and I feel you’ll seriously be missing out on his comic genius if you chose to read the book instead of going with this version!

  37. Arnoldo Brookhart

    Great goofy story!
We enjoyed the antics in the story. Fun characters, great reading voices, kids loved it!

  38. Quentin Schlater

    So fun!
Our family of 5 (with children ages 6-15) LOVED it! The fighting on long car trips stopped and they laughed through out the whole story!

  39. Logan79

    Not your average hero tale
this series starts off pretty interesting currently it seems like there may be some wife swapping happening but maybe they actually will all stay with their current wives. I’m interested to see what happens and future novels of this world

  40. Kirstin Farnes

    good read
good book. I can’t wait to read the others in the series. two thumbs up.

  41. RedseacrAZy

This is a good book for kids and teens. This is really good and kid friendly and fun LISTEN TOO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????????????????????☺

  42. Heike Mcgilvery

    Loved it!!!
Absolutely love a reader that performs the actual characters of the book. It gives it a movie feel without having the visual.

    Great performance by Bronson Pinchot.

Planning on listening to more of Healy’s novels because of him.

  43. Leontine Wrench

Satire at what happens after ‘happily ever after’
If you like satire and sarcasm this book is funny. Looks at what happens after the princes and princesses have their ‘happy ending’. What if they aren’t as competent and heroic as the stories make them out to be but ‘almost’ normal people.
It gets slow at times and there no real emotional or thrilling moment.
Narrator is very self aware playing off your expectations and familiarity with tropes. The main characters are very different with unique voices from each other, sometimes streached too far one way.
If you like fairy tales it’s worth a listen.

  44. Edris C.

Fairy tales with a compound fracture.
What did you love best about The Hero’s Guide to Saving Your Kingdom?

  45. Keven Fehrenbach

    Incredible reading by Bronson Pinchot!
Our whole family (Mom, Dad, ten year old son, and eight year old daughter) enjoyed this book! My ten year old son especially liked the humorous interactions between characters, while my daughter liked the strong female characters who follow their conscience rather than a formula.

The story is clever and provides a unique perspective on many of the traditional fairy tales we’re used to hearing.

The most standout feature, however, is Bronson Pinchot’s gifted reading! He gives each character so much life that you forget the book is being read by a single person! It’s the best performance I’ve heard thus far. Bravo!

  46. S. Wells

    The PRINCE Bride!
This is a belly full of laughs and no mistake. I swear one of the princes is a Texan! The reader is also a prince of a guy, and elevates a delightful story into a howl.

  47. Riley Selders

    Loved it start to finish
We were sad to let it go! Great story for all ages. Bronson is the best narrator hands down, rocks

  48. Dong Demagistris

    Cute but confusing
Is there anything you would change about this book?

  49. Alona Mancillas

Narrator amazing, story so clever and funny
We absolutely loved this story so much. And the narrator is absolutely phenomenal. Just such a wonderful story to share with my boys. From my boys- Gustaf, Frederick, Duncan, and Liam are the funniest characters of all time. I can’t wait until you hear the evil zabera’s crackly laugh. This was one of the best stories I ever heard. Thank you for all the hard work you put into it.

  50. Mohammad Riche

Ahh the genius that is Bronson Pinchot
I know I’m not alone being an adult who enjoys stories meant for the youth, lacking in extreme violence, sex, and prose. Sometimes a person just wants to hear a funny, cute story and this does the job superbly.
And as good as the story is, it is nothing compared to the sublime performance by Mr. Pinchot. Yes it may be attributed to a smashing editor but the fact that he uses at least four accents, monster voices etc. to voice over 20 some odd characters was astonishing. Yes Yes I know it’s his job, whatever. I can’t speak a with a would be Irish, English, So. Cali, and Austrian/German accent and back again without blurring them all together. The character voices were so clear that I didn’t have to have the “and so&so said this” “and so & so so said that.” You could differentiate from voice alone who was speaking and that is because of Bronson’s performance.
I am a Bronson Pinchot fan through and through and I’m slowly going through his entire repertoire. Yes Matterhorn is still looming over my shoulders as a very heavy read so I will enjoy these little peace nuggets when I get them. Cheers!

A good story for the whole family.
Would you consider the audio edition of The Hero’s Guide to Saving Your Kingdom to be better than the print version?

  52. Laura

  55. Latrisha Kasemeier

It was epic! Kept me in a trance until Zobera finished at the end haha
I LOVE mr.pinchots voices and now as I read the books I read them in the voices!

  56. Garret Bajwa

    Fun entertainment for all ages!
Our entire family enjoyed this book. the narration and character voices complimented the author’s writing.

  57. Susanna

Delightful romp elevated by excellent narration
“The Hero’s Guide to Saving Your Kingdom” is a funny, light-hearted middle-grade story that delights in twisting the fairy tales it draws on. The characters are interesting and easy to enjoy, and the plot, though slightly meandering, comes together well (though readers should be warned that the last chapter is open-ended enough to allow for sequels).

What might just be a very fun and unapologetically silly children’s story, however, has been enhanced by very good narration. Bronson Pinchot has developed distinct and appropriate voices for each character and the narrator, and his characterizations add depth to the characters.

  58. Danille H.

Fun read for the whole family!
Narrator did a great job to bring this book to life!

No matter you like the classic fairy-tale or not, this book is entertaining. It breaks some stereo types we have about princes and princesses. I feel the story can be trimmed a bit shorter but overall I would recommend it.

  59. Linda Dickinson

    Loved every second!
I really enjoyed listening to this audio book! I loved how the narrator’s voice brings the story to life. I loved the story line as well! ✌???

  60. Corie Elvert

    Not your normal princess!
If you could sum up The Hero’s Guide to Saving Your Kingdom in three words, what would they be?

Take A Long Drive & Laugh With Your Children.
Anyone, I repeat anyone, telling a story can get a laugh by using foul language & sex jokes. Only a talented person can get those laughs without resorting to foul language & sex jokes. This book is a rare find: something I & my children can listen to & laugh along with. No embarassing moments when the sex & dirty words start flowing. It takes skill to make a person laugh using clean humor & this book does just that.
The spin on the traditional fairy tale characters is original &, while the story is fairly predictable, that should be expected. The main characters that most readers are familiar with & few would expect shocking twists. The fun is in how the story is told.
While I’m sure it would be a fun read, I believe this book shines in audio format. Bronson Pinchot does a top notch job with a plethora of accents & voices. High pitch, low pitch & everything in between is executed perfectly. Scottish, English, Germanic, all equally stellar. I particularly enjoyed the voice of the giant. I don’t know of any other single narrator who could have done justice to all the many different characters in this story. It was like having a one man ensemble cast perform this book.
Do yourself a favor: buy this audio book, leave your cell phones at home, take your children out on a long drive & enjoy some quality family time away from any distractions, and laugh with your children before they grow up so quickly.

  62. Harley Gelormino

    Stop reading go Listen!
Seriously why are you still here reading this. Buy this book listen and enjoy. The story structure is fantastic and in brings together fantasy and a heavy dose of reality and realistic approach to the stories. So stop reading go Listen!

  63. Sanford Wry

    Amazing book
Amazing story and performance. It has made me very happy and made me laugh a lot.

  64. Tod A.

This was a great twist. I had 5 kids ranging in age from 13 to 7 laughing hysterically. Even my husband enjoyed it. The narration was fantastic! Cannot say enough good things about this book! So fun!

  65. Cary Sheck

    Entertainment +++
Imaginative, funny and enthralling. I absolutely loved the story and talented performance of this quirky tale. Definitely a five star listening experience.

  66. Sol Lemley

    Loved it
Light and very fun…an enjoyable listen with great narration and relatable characters. The classic tales are dropped on their heads.

  67. Ann J.M.S Harlan

    Whispersync review
This is best enjoyed as a Whispersync book on a Fire, if you like that. I especially like that one can double tap and expand the wonderful illustrations of the many characters, and the thoroughly entertaining service narration continues uninterrupted (there is a slight hiccup like a skip back a syllable, but not bad). I hope this is a general improvement in function applicable to all books. I completely agree with the many reviewers who loved this book.

  68. Dusty Paciorek

    Not what I expected!
So, It’s not often that I say this, but this was not what I expected. Healy and Harris do an amazing job bringing us the story of the “Princes Charming” and thier work saving the kingdom. They also gave us more of an insider track to the ages old “Happily Ever After”. If you are a fan of fantasy, fairy tales, or just like a good laugh, you need to listen to Bronson Pinchot narrate this story.

That’s something else that surprised me. Bronson Pinchot. Perfect Strangers. And here is he doing an amazing cast of characters with absolutely no trace of Balki! I loved it!

  69. MIssMartha

Good story, great work by Bronson Pinchot
If you’re looking for a silly, fun adventure, then this is the perfect audio book to while away a few afternoons. Bronson Pinchot once again beings the book to life with not just his talent for creating voices, but also with great dramatic readings.

  70. Wilhelmina Wellbrock

    Laugh out loud funny
The voices were great and the writing was hilariously. I listened to it on a transatlantic flight and I kept on having to keep myself from laughing. I’m 14 and it didn’t feel to young for me. It’s light but it could be good for all ages. The accents were a little over the top.
