Elizabeth was a young widow with two small children when she met Congressman Richard Baker. Handsome and wealthy, with a sparkling public image, Richard seemed like the perfect man to provide the security that Beth and her kids were craving. But when she uncovers a dangerous secret about her new husband, Beth realizes he will go to any lengths-even murder-to keep it. After barely escaping with her life, she and her children flee. They eventually make their way to a secluded estate in the Pennsylvania countryside, where Beth dares to hope she has found a safe place at last…

Forced into retirement by an unexpected injury, Philadelphia homicide detective Jack O'Malley is mourning the loss of his career when his uncle abruptly dies, leaving Jack to dispose of his crumbling country house. Unbeknownst to him, his uncle engaged a caretaker just before his death, a mysterious woman with two children and a beautiful face that haunts his dreams. Determined to know her, Jack begins an investigation into Beth's past. When he uncovers the shocking truth, and a local woman is viciously murdered, Jack puts his own life on the line to keep Beth and her children safe.

A 2012 International Thriller Award nominee for Best First Novel, She Can Run is a sexy, satisfying debut from award-winning author Melinda Leigh, packed with enough suspense and romance to get even the tamest heart racing!

This is a amazing book and the story fascinating!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

    Fan
Story was excellent but the reader sounded like a twelve year old. Hard to imagine when a man was speaking with such a young sounding voice. Could get a better reader voice for any other books I’ve said enough but the rating page won’t except my rating, I guess.

  3. Rey Lighthall

    A good mystery
The narration was mediocre but the story was interesting. A good mystery with plenty of characters to suspect.

  4. Cuc Begnoche

    A steamy Romantic Suspense
This book will be a hit with anyone looking for a steamy suspense novel. I expected it to have more depth to it. This kind of thing is not to my taste, but I am sure there are plenty of readers that will love it.

  5. Marco Hewitt

    Great book!
It is a great story! Loved the characters…admired the main character strength…the end was good but, it was a little bit rushed…would have liked a bit more details.

  6. Samira Melbourne

    narration bad
narrator s voice didn’t work. she was too soft spoken and breathy when a suspenseful scene was playing out

  7. Willian Stroinski

    Unexpectidly really great
    Any additional comments?

  8. Gilbert Hirezi

    Good story. Horrible, horrible narrator.
Would you try another book from Melinda Leigh and/or Amy Rubinate?

  9. Lana Wiuff

    Don’t bother….
What disappointed you about She Can Run?

  10. Jarrett Secky

    What a thriller!!
I really enjoyed this book. It really kept you on your toes and kept you guessing. I just fell in love with Beth and her little children. The narrator did a fabulous job telling the story.

  11. Shantelle Eiben

    Great storyline !
I absolutely loved the storyline but was disappointed with the reading of this book. It sounded as if it was being read by a computer. I will recommend the book to all my friends but not the audiobook.

  12. Barrett Kassing

the dressage trainer NOT the romantic lead?
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

  13. Krysta Volstad

Such a tragic narrator, can’t finish
    Any additional comments?

  14. Leigh Perrin

    annoying narration
Would you be willing to try another one of Amy Rubinate’s performances?

  15. Cassidy O.

    Dissapointing
Having enjoyed other Melinda Leigh books, I decided to go back and try the first. I was very disappointed with the shallow characters and ridiculous plot. The main character is unbelievably “unlucky” and the main good guy can’t stop thinking about sex, even when first meeting an obviously scared and abused woman. The narrator added to the over the top created drama. I’m reluctant to read this particular series now, and will wait for more Morgan Dane books instead.

  16. Boris Ries

    Good Listen
I enjoyed the book,it was great hard to put down.I would recomend this for whoever likes a good mystry.

  17. Lance Konzal

    the story is so interesting
I could picture the characters and understood how they felt. the book is so descriptive that as soon as you put it down, you pick it up again.

  18. that1girl

    great story!!!!
grips you from the beginning and keeps you till the end! can’t wait to begin the next book in the series.

  19. Brian Selover

    great book
loved the story…but the narration, not so much. very soft monotone. the book itself tho is fabulous.

  20. Burl Ruhenkamp

    Awesome point of view
This might be the first book written in the first person that is *totally* from the first person’s point of view – meaning no method or devices to “fill in the gaps.” I was so confused at what was happening at first as I didn’t understand how strictly the author stuck to her point of view. To that end we *never* see what is happening outside her eyesight/earshot.

So I started off frustrated. Started to understand. Really started liking it. Cried hard during one section (later in the book). Loved how it ended and how that POV worked so well!

    Staying Focused
This is a great story!!! This author took great effort in crafting this tale of abuse, running and hiding, good people looking out for one another, murder and intrigue, and tires which go beyond blood. Very interesting characters with a great storyline, which has a smooth easy flow. Thank you Ms Leigh.

  22. S. R. Lewis

    Excellent narration and story
This story is great with wonderful characters and nonstop suspense. The narration is great, among the best I’ve ever heard.

  23. Natosha Tomko

    Great story teller!
Melinda Leigh knows how to tell a great story, and keep the writer’s interest. It’s a shame that she falls into that category of authors that think that all we want to hear about is sex. If she had skipped all of the sex, this would have been a five star title!!

  24. Elfrieda F.

    Awesome
Loved it. Great plot which kept me on the edge of my seat. The performance was great

  25. Karen

    5 out of 10.
Let me start by saying that I love the story line from beginning to end. My 5 ou of 10 is beacuse of the narrator. I had been an audiobook listener for a while now and I had found a few narrators that would had made a huge difference in this book. January LaVoy for instance, could had made this book a 10. As a listener, I appreciate the work quality of the narrator as much as the book. Not very satisfy with this one.

  26. Debra Brown Moseley

    I love Melinda Leigh!!
Great stories and series. Splendid narrator. I will keep looking for new additions and can’t wait for more twists and turns!

  27. Squawkingbeak

    I tried to like it
The story without the sex was ok, but I’m not into blatant sex in a book. I skipped over the parts where it was just too much. The plot was rather obvious.

  28. Rickie Voelz

    lisp
The narrator has a slight lisp that is very annoying. I couldn’t get past ten minutes.

  29. Domingo K.

    Good read
The story was suspenseful. The audio narration was elementary, lack of emotional performance. Without the “he said, she said” you would not have known who was talking.

  30. Carissa Santisteban

    Great story
So good to see the growth and strength that Beth gained in her time with Jack. He was so good for her and her children. Just as they were good for him. They healed each other and overcame all the evil that was threatening to take Beth away.

  31. Santos B.

connection with a Good over evil conspiracy.
I enjoyed this auditable ,it was a good idea to capture the listener and have them to connect with the principal theme of the story.

  32. Robin B.

    Not so optional headline
Favorite main characters in order: Dog, Ben, Jack. Heroine? Not heroic. Let’s just say I now understand TSTL. She didn’t have any common sense – what. so. ever. I skipped the obligatory sex scenes since I know how it’s done and a play by play report is only worthwhile in sports.

  33. Max D.

    Very disappointed.
I was so disappointed with this book I should have returned it after the first few chapters. Overall the storyline started out OK but just did not get any better. The narrator never changed her tone, droned on and on, and put me to sleep. Would not recommend this at all!

  34. Amy Manning

    Excellent book
I loved the story line, and could not put it down. I read/listened to the entire book in 1 day. The narration was a little monotoned at times but overall good.

  35. Tarra M.

    Good grief..
    Any additional comments?

  36. Luetta Mckowen

    monotone narrator
Can’t stand tat type of narrator. couldn’t remember why I hadn’t finished this book before. Didn’t take long to remember.

  37. Customer

    Fantastic!
You won’t want to miss this one!! It held my attention all the way through and left me wondering what was going to happen next!

  38. Maximina Labbie

    Similar to reading Nora Roberts
This was a great book but the narrator was annoying the way she would end a word sometimes. But it didn’t dissuade me from liking it

  39. Wilber Gallamore

    Excellent
Really loved this book. Really didn’t need the language…….but it was only a few times. Also didn’t need the explicit sex scene. Otherwise it was a fantastic book. Highly recommend. I will be reading more by this author.

  40. Customer

    Good read
Love the story. The service was a bit too breathy, it took a few tried before I could really get drawn in to the story.

  41. Rebecka Suchan

    Pathetic!
Absolutely pathetic, we have a woman running for her life with her children in tow and she is lusting after the first guy she sees. She can’t wait to hop in the sack with him, all she has on her mind is sex sex sex, what about running for her life with her children, totally unrealistic. And the narrator is horrific, deadpan, mono voice, I hope I never get sucked into reading another book by this author Or another book narrated by this person!! Sucked!!

  42. Cordell Feagans

    Good
Not the most edge of your seat thriller but I enjoyed. The characters got to know each other before they got physical. Someone complained about the explicit sexual scene. I didn’t think it was very explicit.

  43. Bart D.

    She Can Run
The story was great. Compared to the four Rogue Series books, the person who narrated this book was boring with her monotone voice.

  44. Jeffery Milar

    Thriller I couldn’t put down
Great book that keep me wanting more at the end of each chapter. Murder, drama, mystery, and love… this book has it all!

  45. Kamilah Pechart

    Great story
It was a great story,it really was but the only thing is that I wish there were a little bit more of the serial killer side than the love story side but I did enjoy the book.

  46. Antione Edie

This book sounds like it was read by a computer!
Would you try another book from Melinda Leigh and/or Amy Rubinate?

  47. Mellie Mooers

    Enjoyable Ride!
I enjoyed the characters, suspense and the twists and turns including the love story. I think you will too!

  48. Edgardo Mcdonald

    Narrator is terrible!!
Narrator is terrible. Book is good. She tries to put too much sexy in her voice.

  49. Oliver Consorti

    Pretty damn good!
    Enjoyed this book very much.
I was sure I knew who the killer was…but I was wrong.
    Ha must read

  50. Lesley Discon

    Good series
Very good book, make sure you get the series, the price is right and the story is a good one.

  51. Trine

    Average at best
What disappointed you about She Can Run?

  52. Jenny Colafrancesco

    Fast moving
Where does She Can Run rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

  53. Jeromy Rehnert

    Comeuppance
Easy flowing, captivating, suspenseful and cozy read.
The writer made the story and events believable. You could feel the tension of the leading female character as she tried to find a safe haven for her children.
The narrator did a very good job. The voice of each character was distinctive and matched the personality being portrayed.

  54. Kylie Mclay

    Suspenseful but flawed
The plot groups the reader from the beginning. However there is a ridiculous psychic element that is not revealed until far into the story. (I would’ve skipped the book if I had known this.) The psychic element ends up producing a silly deus ex machina in the end. Also there is no character development.

  55. Kindle Customer

    awesome read!!!
Melinda Leigh writes another brilliant book!! so fast everything she writes it gripping and captivating!!

  56. Heather

Good book but narration was lacking
Story started out a little slow but quickly grew on me. Enjoyable characters but the narrator wasn’t right for this book.

  57. Deandre Colyar

    She Can Run
Whew, that was a story! This was quite the winding road of a story that covered a lot. My one disappointment was I knew from early on who the serial killer was but otherwise, quite a story! I do wish there was a little more at the end but otherwise, really enjoyable! The narration was also enjoyable, so much so, that I was really into the story during the serial killer end scene and a real life noise happened and almost caused a heart attack!

  58. Devon Trell

crime thriller heavy on the romance
good but not what i was expecting, heavy on the romance, not trashy but an explicit love scene. a little bit predictable but entertaining.

  59. Rosario Canada

    Nothing outstanding
Is there anything you would change about this book?

  60. Kori K.

    horrible audio rendition
I couldn’t even pay attention to the book because it sounded like an Android was reading the book. Additionally my eyes roll every single time that tightness in his groin was brought up.

  61. Benito M.

great story but painful to listen to
This was my first book of Linda Leigh and I enjoyed her writing. The characters were lovable and hateable….however the narrator was painful to listen to. She did a good job with the individual voices, but the narration for everything else was a soft raspy monotone type voice…. I was extremely disappointed. I thought I’d listened to her before, so Maybe she was trying out a new style. Whatever the case, I will not listen to this audio book again, and will be more careful when selecting a book narrated by Amy Rubinate.

  62. Branda Kantor

    Run
The story was good, although a bit far fetched, lol. 3 different bad guys after the same woman?! Then add a psychic veteran to the mix and all I could do was roll my eyes. Still, it would’ve been enjoyable if I’d read it instead of listened to it. The narrator has the most boring, monotone voice of any I’ve listened to recently. She didn’t stumble on the words, there was just little inflection to her voice. I found myself wishing the book would be over so I could rate her low here.

  63. Zachariah Ironhorse

Beth must be the unluckiest person alive……
    ****Contains SPOILERS****

The overall story was solid but quite unbelievable. Two killers in a span of 2days have their sights set on Beth really?

AND A PREGNANCY? They had just been intimate there is no way they could tell so fast! But I did like the story. The Author left you trying to figure out who the Riverside Strangler was..And you had a couple possible suspects but in the last two chapters is when you find out whom it really was…

  64. Quintin Roderiques

    While the story was good…
What did you like best about She Can Run? What did you like least?

  65. Saul Went

    Awesome
Awesome story! Kept me on the edge of my seat! The performance was a little monotone but the story was great!

  66. Emil Kulju

Why so much sex? Narrator was awful.
First, the narrator’s voice really bothered me. So breathy. And the fact that she pronounced Beth as “bath” bothered me greatly since this is the name of the main character. Secondly, so. many. sex. details. Not my thing. Overall, the story was good and captivating.

  67. Melani Dilley

    Oy vey
What disappointed you about She Can Run?

  68. Wilbur Grivna

    Decent suspense but nothing unique
Nothing new in this story. Seen it all before. The narrator was OK but all her male voices sounded the same. It was tough to follow conversations between two guys.

  69. Antonina Hance

    Nice mystery.. bad Narrator
Would you consider the audio edition of She Can Run to be better than the print version?
