Janet Evanovich, bestselling author of One for the Money, Two for the Dough, and Three to Get Deadly, scores big with Four to Score, her most thrilling Stephanie Plum adventure yet. Working for her bail bondsman cousin Vinnie, Stephanie is hot on the trail of revenge-seeking waitress Maxine Nowicki, whose crimes include bail jumping, theft, and extortion. Someone is terrifying Maxine's friends, and those who have seen her are turning up dead. Also on the hunt for Maxine is Joyce Barnhardt, Stephanie's archenemy and rival bounty hunter. Stephanie's attitude never wavers-- even when aided by crazy Grandma Mazur, ex-hooker and wannabe bounty hunter Lula, and transvestite rock musician Sally Sweet-- and even when Stephanie makes an enemy whose deadly tactics escalate from threatening messages to firebombs. All of this pales in comparison, though, with an even greater danger Stephanie faces, when, homeless and broke, she and her hamster Rex move in with a vice cop Joe Morelli. RATED PG35 for licentious wit and libidinous cohabitation.

    Performance blah
I really like the series. Really don’t like the narrator. Her choices for character portrayal are terrible.

Toward the end it seems like some of the story was cut out!
Toward the end it seems like some of the story was cut out! Why is that?

    Sub-par Narration
Love the Stephanie Plum series, but this narrator just does not do justice to the characters. Sounds pretentious, but not funny. Needs a “Jersey girl” sound like the other narrators bring to the stories. Maybe this narrator is better with different types of novels.

  5. Dion Espanol

    Love this ssries
Every book in this series keeps you laughing and wondering what could possibly happen next. This one kept you wondering who kept blowing up and burning Stephanie’s stuff.

  6. Kenyetta Damboise

    Enjoyable listen
Love the story but I wish Lorelei King had been the reader.

    Disappointed
I loved the first three Stephanie Plum books and a large part of that was Lori Petty’s reaading of the book. I didn’t check and should have read the other reviews before buying the fourth book read by Debi Mazur. Petty’s reading was a joy with a tough accent that completely fit the character. Now, with Mazur, she is a somewhat blase, bored 30 something. It’s so sad – I loved the first three books and now I have to give up the series. It’s like having really good food that was just right and trying to have it again only to find out a new chef has totally changed the recipe.

    Narrator fantastic!!
CJ Critt brings all these characters to life. Living in Jersey, as I do, it’s great fun to hear all her accents and attitudes so accurate. Love her work and listen to anything she narrates!

    Disappointing narrator
I loved reading all of the Stephanie Plumb novels and was looking forward to the audio version, but was disappointed in the narrator. Her portrayal of Stephanie was rather asexual instead of the babe that Stephanie definitely is, and her attempts to portray the men sounded like, well, a woman trying to sound like a man. Most narrators are able to pull this off more convincingly. This version distracted me from the story, at least as I had imagined it.

  13. Nancey Cohenour

CJ Critt is a horrible narrator.

    Epiphany
Figured out the draw of Stephanie Plum books, it is the antics of her friends. Lula, Grandma Mazur and the burg characters.

  17. Sharan Darnell

    Plum fun continues!
This addition to the Plum series is so funny and CJ Critt makes the characters come alive. The action as always is fast and furious. From ridiculous situation to nearly impossible conclusion. A fun story that entertains. No heavy reading here only a bit of heavy breathing!

  18. Denny Polland

Didn’t like the narrator. Not good at characters she would be great and reading something that didn’t require different voices

  33. Vergie M.

    Better than the last one
I was super excited when 2,3, and 4 came out in unabridged form, but was confused when Lorelei King wasn’t the narrator. I listened to 2 and it was okay. Took some getting used to, but entertaining. The 3rd one was awful. I took a chance on this one and it was okay. It takes a little getting used to but between the entertaining story and better (than #3) narration by Critt, it turned out okay.

  34. Pat L.

    Four to Score
I love the book, as with the other three. Just not the greatest narrator.. She is dull sounding.

The Best Stephanie Plum story and narrator (CJ Critt)
My favorite Stephanie Plum story. I listen to it often. And there’s no better narrator for the novels than Critt. I hate that she’s no longer the series narrator. Oh well. I don’t really enjoy the other stories anyway.

  37. Alaina Haass

  38. Zachery Papranec

    Stephenie Plum is the best!
These are wonderful that I can over and over again. Lorelei is a great narrator who breaths life into the characters.

  39. Philip Poppel

    Poor narrator
Would you try another book from Janet Evanovich and/or CJ Critt?

  40. Boris Ries

    I loved it!
Great story, great characters and a fantastic book! I can’t wait to get started on the 5th book

  41. Kristi

    I hate the narrator!
After listening to books 1 – 3 and loving the narrator I am very disappointed in this one. She sounds like a dull old lady and not a spunky young NJ woman. I am going to struggle to finish listening to this one.

  42. Deirdre Hamburger

    I love the narrator!!
I loved the narrator. I know others didn’t but I’m glad she’s so good.

  43. Ronda L. Ennis

    Fast paced and funny!
Another great ride! Just not for Stephanie. First her car, then her apartment goes up in flames, at least her relationship with Morelli heats up as well.

  44. Alexa K.

    To funny

  45. Ellena Capaldo

RICHLY POPULATED WITH WACKY EVENTS AND CHARACTERS!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

  46. Cecelia M.

    good plot, iffy narrator
The plot for this book is nearly as good as Evanovich’s laters, but if you’ve listened to books 7-11 which have a fantastic narrator, you’ll likely find the narrator for this one disappointing. The voices are ordinary, rather than the utterly hilarious and engaging ones in the later books, and the narrator makes many of the characters seem a bit slow in the head.

  47. Dollie Engebretsen

    It’s not CJ Critt’s fault.
Not my cup of tea. I prefer a story with a larger than life protagonist facing seemingly insurmountable odds. This is about a sub par but sexy bounty hunter flailing around with her friends. She has trouble putting two and two together and when things go wrong, she sits around waiting to be rescued. The biggest problem, however, is the narrater. Don’t get me wrong, CJ Critt is a good narrater. She does accents and voices and wasn’t bad to listen to, but whoever decided that a story about a young, sexy bounty hunter, that contains several sex scenes, should be narrated by a 60 year old woman is daft.

  48. Oscar Rumrill

Four does NOT disappoint – must read five now….
Each one of these books gets better with characters you love in unexpected situations.
Four does not disappoint – bring on five!

  49. Ivette Wiece

    3 chapters really?
payed almost $ 12.00 for only 3 chapters, will be canceling audio books. Not happy

  50. Enda S.

    good book bad narrator
This is a really good installment of the Stephanie Plum series, truly it is, but the narrator CJ Critt is terrible! I almost would have preferred the abridged version because at least Debi Mazar sounds like a thirty year old woman from Jersey and not a 60-ish grandmother from the Midwest. It was so difficult to get into this book because of Ms. Critt. Why she made Grandma Mazur sound like she smokes three packs a day and could possibly be a man I will never understand. If you should choose the unabridged version and agree with me on this particular narrator just push through it because the whole book is worth the listen and Ms. Critt’s annoying commendation will soon fall behind the book’s flare for comedy and suspense.

  51. Minnie Matte

Good story but miss King as narrator
I love all the Plum novels. This was actually the first one I read and I was hooked and had to read them all. But I don’t like this narrator as much as Lorelei King, who reads for most of Janet Evanovich’s books.

  52. Marcos Ornellas

    Stephanie Fan
I LOVE the Stephanie Plum novels but the narrator in this story sounds like an old bar fly and not AT ALL like Stephanie! Book is GREAT narrator, not so much

  53. Jerald Depass

    staying strong
I’m always leery of a long series because how many times can you listen to the same crazy stuff happening to the same goofy heroine and still love her, but then the author goes and adds Sally Sweet in the mix with Lula and Grandma, sending them all to Atlantic City. And then I can’t stop reading. It’s impossible to get bored, because there’s always some new trouble Stephanie ends up in that you just don’t (can’t possibly) see coming. And then there’s Joe.

This is a truly enjoyable series, and I’m on to book five.

  54. Luella Lungren

Stephanie Plum is a sugar coated treat.
Much like “Bubblegum Pop” music, the adventures of Stephanie Plum is easy entertainment for the mind and soul. Not an everyday listen, but when I stray back this way I always enjoy myself.

  55. Ulysses Caselli

One of my favorite reads and listens.
I love Stephanie. This one is one of my favorites. Where else can you find a group of characters that are so out there. From Sally to Lulu to crazy grandma. You gotta love them all.

  56. Tracey

    Stephanie & Morelli… When?!!?
The unknown love craze continues! Just love them both. Their chemistry and ways with each other leaves me full of envy.

  57. Delmy Bazzi

Great but chapters dont match up
I love this series but this audio book’s chapters don’t match up how it plays out. Multiple chapters read within the digital chapters.

  58. Gene Ganigan

    Great Story, Narrator lacked something
I loved this book! The only thing that I didn’t really care for was the narrator. She was lacking the Jersey accent that we all know Stephanie has. Good thing the storyline was so enjoyable, otherwise I probably wouldn’t have finished the book.

  59. Michelle

    good book bad reader
I agree with all the other reviews. The narrator is awful. The book is good though. Since I don’t have time to sit and read I am glad I listened to the book. It was worth putting up with the awful reading to get to “read” the book.

  60. Aubrey Grune

    absolutely loved it.
what is not to like, or perhaps even love about this book? the narrator is terrific, perfect combination with the author. this is one of my favorite series, I am savoring it, only “allowing” myself the next installment after listening to at least 3-4 other books first. simply don’t want it to end too soon. 😉

  61. Jina C.

    Great fun listen!
Where does Four to Score rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

  62. Lorenzo G.

good story, not a fan of who read it
Lori Petty who read books 1-3, sounded much better suited for a Jersey girl who grew up in the “burg”, as well as all the other characters. it was hard to picture that story with this reader

  63. Amos C.

    Love the Narrator
    Any additional comments?

  64. Dominick C.

    Loved it
Again a great book! Would recommend to any mystery book reader. I wish the next 2 on audiobook in the series would come unabridged!

  65. Tesha Carodine

Stephanie Plum is an enjoyable character.

  66. Fabian G.

    Narration Ruined it
I am a big fan of the entire Stephanie Plum series. This story is good, same humor we’ve come to expect but the narration ruins it completely. I went back to the book for the one, the narration was so bad I wasn’t able to make it through the audio edition.

  67. Carolyn S.

    Great listen, wonderful narrator.
What did you love best about Four to Score?

  68. Asley Hendrikson

C J Critt is Stehanie Plum
What made the experience of listening to Four to Score the most enjoyable?

  69. Justin B.

CJ Critt is the best narrator for Stephanie Plum
If you could sum up Four to Score in three words, what would they be?

  70. Angelo B.

    Thank you Ms Evanovich
Love these entertaining novels. I hope they are all made into movies. Enjoyed # 1.
